Signature Trinity College Events Headline an Exciting Weekend in Hartford

Samba Fest and Trinity Film Festival Joined by Tech Savvy during an Eventful Saturday

Hartford, CT, April 30, 2015 – Hartford is once again expecting beautiful weather for what has become a highlight of the capital city’s event calendar every year. Now a spring tradition, this Saturday once again features Samba Fest at Hartford’s Mortensen Riverfront Plaza and the Trinity Film Festival on campus at Cinestudio. Joining them this year is AAUW’s Tech Savvy, a program designed to attract girls to careers in science, technology, engineering, and math.

Samba Fest, celebrating its ninth year, will feature performances from Ivan Vilela, Meninos de Minas, Sambeleza, Ginga Brasileira, the Trinity Samba Ensemble (led by Eric Galm, associate professor of music and ethnomusicology), and the Hartford Hot Several. The festival, which drew 4,000 people to the riverfront last year, was recently featured in the Hartford Courant. Samba Fest is free and runs from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday.

The Trinity Film Festival, also on Saturday, will be held at Cinestudio on Trinity’s campus. Featuring 22 short films by students from around the country, selected from 59 submissions, the festival – also covered by the Hartford Courant – is in its fourth year. The Trinity Film Festival begins at 5:00 p.m. in Cinestudio and is followed by an awards ceremony and reception. It is free and open to the public.

Rounding out the weekend is AAUW's Tech Savvy, a new program designed to attract girls in sixth through ninth grade to STEM fields and to inform families about STEM education and careers. Trinity College President Joanne Berger-Sweeney will deliver welcoming remarks at the event, which is chaired by Trinity alumna Donna Haghighat ’89 and held in the Washington Room in Mather Hall.
