This event is free and open to the public.

Background:

The recently retired senior science adviser to President Obama, Dr. Philip Rubin, will speak about the BRAIN (Brain Research through Advancing Innovative Neurotechnologies) Initiative, President Obama's new research initiative designed to revolutionize our understanding of the human mind and uncover new ways to treat, prevent, and cure brain disorders like Alzheimer’s, schizophrenia, autism, epilepsy, and traumatic brain injury. He will also speak more broadly to issues related to science policy and science funding.

Rubin is currently the senior advisor to the president of Haskins Laboratories in New Haven, Connecticut, where from 2003 through 2011 he was the chief executive officer and a senior scientist. He is also a professor adjunct in the Department of Surgery, Otolaryngology at the Yale University School of Medicine, a research affiliate in the Department of Psychology at Yale University, and a fellow at Yale's Trumbull College.
