Hartford Mobile Market Coming to Trinfo.Café on Monday Afternoons

Beginning July 6, Trinity/HMTCA Neighborhood Is New Stop for Farmers’ Market on Wheels

Hartford, CT, June 25, 2015 – Trinfo.Café is about to become a new stop for the Hartford Mobile Market, a year-round mobile produce market delivering fresh and local produce to Hartford neighborhoods. Beginning July 6, the Hartford Mobile Market, run by Hartford Food System, will make a regular stop at Trinfo.Café’s 1300 Broad Street location on Mondays from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

The mobile market – a colorfully painted, converted bus – makes several stops each week where shoppers board the bus to purchase affordable fresh fruits and vegetables using a variety of payment methods, including SNAP/Food Stamps. The goal of the mobile market is to increase access to affordable, high-quality fruits and vegetables for Hartford residents.

The new mobile market stop will be a real plus for individuals using Trinfo.Café’s technology services, as well as many others in the area, including families with children attending Hartford Magnet Trinity College Academy (HMTCA) and other nearby schools, and those participating in the Trinity College Boys and Girls Club and the Hartford Youth Scholars Foundation’s Steppingstone Academy. During the summer, there are also many families whose children attend Trinity’s Dream Camp and the YMCA’s Camp Dakota, which uses Learning Corridor space.

Trinity employees and students are also excited about this new opportunity to purchase fresh, local produce. Brooke Heron ’16, who is interning this summer with Hartford Food System, said that she is looking forward to the mobile market stop, adding, “I really believe in Hartford Food System’s mission.” A double major in anthropology and psychology, Heron has been working to arrange and promote Hartford Food System’s summer series of “Urban Farm Chef Demonstrations.” Working alongside an intern who attends New York University, Heron described their work in support of the organization’s efforts to fight hunger and improve nutrition in Hartford as very rewarding.

The Hartford Mobile Market is a collaborative project of Hartford Food System and Hispanic Health Council. The Harvard Pilgrim Health Care Foundation and Hartford Hospital are the program’s founding funders, with additional support from the City of Hartford, Bank of America, the USDA, and the NBC Universal Foundation.
