First-Year Students Explore Career Development Process during Workshop

“Exploring Your Options” Workshop Equips Students with Tools to Make Career Path Choices

Hartford, CT, February 6, 2015 – On a snowy Saturday morning, when many of their classmates took the opportunity to sleep in, nearly 70 first-year students gathered in Mather Hall for a day-long workshop called “Exploring Your Options,” designed to introduce students to the career development process. The fun and interactive session helped students explore how their interests, abilities, skills, personalities, and values connect to potential majors and/or careers. The keynote speech was by Ben Carpenter, author of The Bigs, a career guide for students and young professionals, and alumna Elizabeth Chubbuck ’04 led an afternoon session. At the end of the day, the first-year students were better equipped with tools to make important decisions about their academic and career paths.
