Allan K. Smith Reading Series Brings Writers & Poets to Campus

Author Fred Bahnson Kicks Off Series on September 18

Hartford, CT, September 12, 2014 – This fall, the Allan K. Smith Reading Series continues at Trinity College, featuring readings by an acclaimed group of authors and poets. The series kicks off on September 18 with a reading by Fred Bahnson, author of Soil and Sacrament: A Spiritual Memoir of Food and Faith.

 In October, Trinity welcomes four poets to the Smith House. On October 2, the series features three award-winning poets who have recently published their first collections of work: Lorraine Doran, Anna Ross, and R.A. Villanueva. Poet Brian Turner, author of the collections Here, Bullet and Phantom Noise as well as the memoir My Life as a Foreign Country, comes to campus on October 28.

Novelists Jim Shepard ’78, and Amity Gaige make up the rest the fall schedule. Shepard is an alumnus of Trinity College and the author of six novels, including Project X. He will participate in the series on November 11. Gaige, whose novel Schroder was named one of the Best Books of 2013 by The New York Times Book Review, wraps up the semester with her reading on December 4.

All readings begin at 4:30 p.m. and are held in the Smith House, at 123 Vernon Street. They are free and open to the public. For information on the authors and the series, click here.
