After earning his General Education Diploma, he began taking courses at a state college, eventually enrolling full-time at a community college. Today he excels at Trinity as an Individualized Degree Program student. The recipient of the Brownell Club Scholarship, Nathan serves as president of Trinity’s Student Government Association.
“It is not simply financial assistance that Trinity has given me. I have been given the chance of a brighter future and the opportunity to make a better life for myself. And that is something that does not have a price tag.”
Sophia Alyssa Simpson ’10 San Francisco, California American Studies and Architectural Design and Visual Studies
Sophia Alyssa Simpson ‘10 is a Presidential Scholar who has received faculty honors for her work. A student with dyslexia, Alyssa is an advocate for other Trinity students with disabilities and is an active member of the Trinity community. “I am humbled by the ways Trinity has forced me to question my beliefs and helped me to form a broader perspective about the world. This is the most foreign place I have ever lived; it has provided me with the most opportunities to learn about myself.”
Zee Santiago ’09 Brooklyn, New York Anthropology and Finance
Zee Santiago ’09 is a POSSE Scholar who won the Human Relations Award, recognizing outstanding students for citizenship and sportsmanship.
A campus leader, Zee helped organize a three-day International Hip-Hop Festival featuring artists from around the world, as well as scholars, authors, and industry professionals. Derek deSvastich ’10 Hartford, Connecticut Economics
A member of Trinity’s formidable squash team, Derek came to Trinity with impressive finance experience already under his belt. He began trading equities at age 17 and co-founded Voregon Capital, LLC, at 19.
One of his favorite classes was “Caribbean Culture” with Professor of Religion and International Studies Leslie Desmangles that generated an interest in sugar trading and gave him a new perspective on the people, the culture, the economy, and the effects of tourism.
Jordan Fisher ’08 Scottsdale, Arizona Neuroscience and Hispanic Studies
As a Trinity Grant scholarship award recipient, Jordan Fisher ’08 valued his involvement in Hartford. He served as an academic mentor at the Learning Corridor and a medical translator in the Emergency Department of Hartford Hospital.
Jordan also studied at the University of Santiago in Chile, where he got to explore further his interests in medicine and Hispanic culture.
“One of the greatest aspects of Trinity College is its emphasis on global scholarship as an integral part of the liberal arts experience. I value the fact that I am earning not just a degree at Trinity but also global knowledge and sophistication that will prepare me to be a physician.”
