Giving to Trinity
Recent Leadership Gifts and Celebrations

Gifts to Trinity have far-reaching impact, as the effect of leadership philanthropy reaches across campus to support our students and faculty in hundreds of ways. Donors have many opportunities to see their gifts at work, first-hand. From funding scholarships to helping to build academic and athletic facilities to underwriting student and faculty research: gifts to Trinity make a difference.

Below is some news about recent leadership gifts and celebrations highlighting the generosity of spirit and resources of Trinity's alumni, parents, and friends.

Arthur Vining Davis Urban and Global Summer Institute Launched

With a $200,000 grant from the Arthur Vining Davis Foundations, Trinity College launched its new Urban and Global Summer Institute, which places 20 students in hands-on projects within the City of Hartford. Recently Institute Director and James J. Goodwin Professor of English Milla Riggio hosted a brief ceremony which introduced participating students and their faculty sponsors as well as field supervisors from non-profit organizations. During the summer, each Davis Fellow will either conduct faculty-supervised research or intern with a Hartford non-profit organization.

On Sunday, April 29, 2007, the Trinity Rowing community, family, and friends gathered to dedicate a new racing shell named in memory of David I. Brown '73. Brown was a champion rower at Trinity, dedicated alumnus, and outstanding member of the community. Gifts from his family, classmates, and friends purchased a new empacher racer and established an endowment of over $225,000 to support acquisition of a new David I. Brown '73 shell every four years.

Timothy J. Walsh '85 Addresses 2007 Scholars Reception

Scholarship donors often receive letters from the students who benefit from their generosity. And the college regularly shares news of student achievements, including honors and academic prizes. But perhaps no event offers donors a better chance to see the difference their gifts make than the annual Scholars Reception. This year, donors and students met at the Washington Room in Mather Hall. Timothy J. Walsh '85, a member of the College's Board of Fellows, addressed the informal gathering. Walsh was introduced by Timothy J. Walsh '85 and Mary Casner Walsh Scholar Jeffrey Scalia '09. During the evening scholars had the chance to say thank you while donors enjoyed the opportunity to learn first-hand about the aspirations of these exceptional students.
