​E. Gates Garrity-Rokous ’86

Gates graduated from Trinity in 1986 with a BA in Philosophy and History.  He went on earn a law degree at Yale following a three-year tour as a Peace Corps volunteer in Mali, West Africa.

Gates has spent more than 20 years developing, assessing and managing ethics and compliance for large, complex institutions with a broad expertise in higher education, healthcare and financial services.  Prior to joining The Ohio State University as Chief Compliance Officer, Gates served as Chief Compliance Officer for GE Capital Americas, where he oversaw its regulatory compliance program.  Previously he was a white collar defense partner for Wiggin & Dana, LLP, and also served as an assistant U.S. attorney and health-care fraud-enforcement officer with the Department of Justice.  Gates also teaches courses on compliance at OSU’s Moritz College of Law and Yale Law School.

Gates and his wife, Beth, a child psychologist, have three sons and live in Columbus, OH.
