Organization Mission Statement         Manchester Early Learning Center (MELC) is a community based, non-profit organization providing quality and affordable early childhood and before and after school experiences for children and their families.

Responsibilities         Assist the Head and Lead Teacher in all operations of the classroom including: 

  • Create and maintain an environment that is safe, organized and appropriate and meets licensing and NAEYC standards. 
  • Create, implement, and assess age-appropriate curriculum plans that meets the social, emotional, cognitive and physical needs of children. 
  • Maintain all required classroom records, including but not limited to attendance, meal counts, and sign in sheets
  • Create and implement systems to keep families connected and informed of children's progress and the classroom
  • Attend and participte in departmental, organization-wide and other meetings
  • Act in the best interest of the organization, reflecting the values of teamwork, collaboration, and mutual respect
  • Perform other duties as needed


  • At least 12 credits in Early Childhood Education or enrollment in an Early Childhood Education Program 
  • Knowledge of State of Connecticut Licensing regulation, National Associate for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) standards 
  • Statement of good health and negative results of a TB test within past 6 months
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

Physical Requirements:    

  • The ability to hear the conversational voice with or without a hearing aid
  • The ability to see with or without corrective lenses
  • The ability to speak and be understood in normal circumstances
  • The ability to lift and carry children or items weighing up to 50 lbs
  • The ability to use arms, legs, hands and feet with or without corrective devices to accomplish the job including evacuation of the building during emergencies
  • The ability to bend walk or stand for long periods of time
