Organization Mission Statement         Manchester Early Learning Center (MELC) is a community based, non-profit organization providing quality and affordable early childhood and before and after school experiences for children and their families.


Responsibilities         

  • Help to create and maintain an environment that is safe, age appropriate, and that meets licensing and National After School Association (NAA) standards. 
  • Help to implement weekly age appropriate curriculum plans that meet the social, emotional, cognitive and physical needs of children. 
  • Ensure that the environment is clean and organized on a daily basis
  • Keep Program Manager informed of all program activities and any areas of concern
  • Assist in maintaining and updating all required program records such as attendance, meal counts, sign in/out sheets, and any other records assigned by the Program Manager
  • Help create and implement systems to keep families connected and informed of child's progress in the classroom
  • Supervise children to maintain proper staff/child ratios and safety
  • Participte in staff meetings
  • Perform other duties as needed

Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Prior experience working with school-age children preferred
  • Certification in Day Care Providers First Aid, CPR and Medication Administration
  • Knowledge of State of Connecticut Licensing and National After School Association (NAA) standards 
  • Statement of good health and negative results of a TB test within past 6 months
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills


Physical Requirements:    

  • The ability to hear the conversational voice with or without a hearing aid
  • The ability to see with or without corrective lenses
  • The ability to speak and be understood in normal circumstances
  • The ability to lift and carry children or items weighing up to 50 lbs
  • The ability to use arms, legs, hands and feet with or without corrective devices to accomplish the job including evacuation of the building during emergencies
  • The ability to bend walk or stand for long periods of time
