dayana.aleksandrova@trincoll.edu

High school: Sant Bani School

Major: International Relations and Hispanic Studies

Minor: Undeclared

Favorite class taken at Trinity: Spanish

Favorite professor at Trinity: Christopher van Ginhoven Rey

Why I chose Trinity: Trinity embodied everything I was looking for in a school: small classes with knowledgeable and supportive professors, a beautiful campus, a wide variety of extracurricular activities and clubs, and a desire among the student body to excel in academics and athletics and strive for perfection.

Extracurricular activities: Trin TV, Rally Committee, WRTC Radio, PRAXIS, the Little Sister/Big Sister Mentoring Program

What I love most about Trinity: The size of Trinity’s student body is perfect for me. The fact that the school has less than 3,000 students gives you the chance to establish close relationships with interesting people. You feel as though you are at home every time you return to campus.

Professional goals/career plans: I would like to pursue a career in the fields of Public Relations and Marketing, International Relations or Journalism.

R. Andrew Bannon-Guasp

Major: Double major in History and Religion

Favorite class taken at Trinity: "Religion in American History"

Why I chose Trinity: I chose Trinity because of its location, which is close to home for me. It also had the best academic program of all the colleges into which I was accepted.

This summer, a few friends and I have also started a small library in the Fred that currently stands at approximately 600 volumes. The goal is to have a fully functional library by the beginning of the school year which will provide a space for students to study. Outside of Trinity, I am politically active. I am currently a Justice of the Peace for the State of Connecticut.

What I love most about Trinity: I really love the community feeling of the Fred. It’s nice to know everyone in the building and to work together to put on an event every Friday evening. It’s one of Trinity’s best assets.

Professional goals/career plans: It is my goal to teach religion or history at the undergraduate level.

Kathryn Durkin

Westport, CT
Class of 2015
Kathryn.Durkin@trincoll.edu

High School: Staples High School

Major: Psychology; Music

Favorite class taken at Trinity: “Basic Acting”

Favorite professor at Trinity: Professor Michelle Hendrick

What I love most about Trinity: The welcoming atmosphere I encountered as a freshman allowed me to find where I belong at Trinity, both in my academics and extracurricular activities.

Professional goals/career plans: I’m still a long way from figuring out exactly what I want to do in the future, but I’d like to combine my love for theater and working with kids, so I think teaching could be a good fit.

Ryan Russell McCann

North Hampton, New Hampshire
Class of 2014

High school: Phillips Exeter Academy

Major:  History/Public Policy and Law

Favorite class taken at Trinity: History 301. It was a small class, based around analyzing historical events and people through textual analysis. Reading accounts from the great public figures of the past is an experience unlike any other.

Favorite professor at Trinity: Professor Scott Gac

Why I chose Trinity: I first fell in love with Trinity on my tour; in all honesty, I was never planning on attending such a small school so far from home. Trinity of course has a great reputation for academic excellence, which contributed. But when I set foot on the long walk I was overtaken by the picturesque campus. At that moment all I could think about was becoming a Bantam.

Extracurricular activities: Varsity Swim Team, Member of the Honor Council, Class President 2010-2011, First Year Residential Assistant, Presidential Fellow for The Center for the Study of The Presidency and Congress.

What I love most about Trinity:  Trinity is an amazing place; there are many aspects, which I find particularly appealing but overall I love that faculty here have such a bond with their students. Not many colleges can boast that their professors know each students name and interests off the top of their head. And not many professors would invite a student or class off campus for dinner or an event. At Trinity they do. Teachers become more than simply directors of a class—they become mentors, friends and a support structure. That is a quality that I only found at Trinity.

Professional goals/career plans: I hope to attend both law and business school after my time at Trinity. Though it is still early, I would like to become a Venture capitalist or Corporate lawyer.

Jackie Sanders

Buffalo, New York
Class of 2014

High school: Buffalo Seminary

Major: Double major in Psychology and English

Favorite class taken at Trinity: My First-Year Seminar: "Inquiring Minds: Reading Hard-Boiled Detective Fiction"

Favorite professor at Trinity: Professor Butos

Why I chose Trinity: Coming from a small high school, I looked for a school that also provided a strong sense of community and individual attention from professors. Trinity is the perfect size; small enough that I can be actively engaged in class, but large enough that I meet new people every day. The academics opportunities also attracted me. Not only does Trinity provide a strong education, but offers useful connections and tools to use after graduation.

Extracurricular activities: Sailing Club, Do-It Day, Habitat for Humanity, Tour Guide

What I love most about Trinity: I love the cheerful atmosphere, no matter what time of day or season. One thing I have noticed with Trinity students is their shared love of the College. Between the academics, athletics, other extracurricular activities, the close-knit community makes being away at school very enjoyable. Trinity feels like home, whether I'm hanging out in my dorm room or studying late at night in the library.

Professional goals/career plans: Child psychologist or something in publishing or advertisement.

Class of 2013

High school: Marymount School

Major: Art History

Favorite class taken at Trinity: “Global Short Fiction”

Favorite professor at Trinity: Okey Ndibe

Why I chose Trinity: The first thing I loved about Trinity was the campus. Growing up in New York City, I knew I wanted a school that had a beautiful campus and a lot of school spirit. Trinity has all of that while still being in Hartford, so students are able to go off campus and take advantage of what the city has to offer. Another reason I choose Trinity was because of its strong Art History department. Our campus is centrally located between Boston and New York, so some of the best museums in the northeast are only a train ride away.

What I love most about Trinity: The discussion based classes and passionate, fun professors.

Professional goals/career plans: When I graduate I hope to work at an art gallery in New York City and from there hopefully go into teaching.
