Financial Aid
Undergraduate Students: How to Apply

All financial aid applicants are responsible for following these steps and meeting required deadlines. Failure to do so will result in the loss of Trinity funds. Late applicants will receive $300 less grant per month until all required documents are received.

1: CSS Profile Application
Completed your CSS Profile online between January 1st and March 1st at
https://profileonline.collegeboard.com/index.jsp.

Trinity’s CSS school code number is 3899. If you have not completed current year federal tax returns prior to completing the Profile, list estimated income on the application. Do not miss the March 1st deadline because current tax returns are not available. Be sure to keep a printed copy of your Profile for your records.

Once your Profile has been processed, you will receive an acknowledgment statement from CSS. Review the statement carefully and send all data corrections directly to the Financial Aid Office.

2: Renewal FAFSA
Complete and submit the FAFSA application between January 1st and March 1st.

Trinity’s Title IV school code is 001414. Please be sure the correct code number is indicated on the FAFSA. Again, use estimated income figures if your tax returns will not be completed prior to March 1st.

Trinity College recommends that you submit your FAFSA application using FAFSA on the Web www.fafsa.ed.gov. Applications that are submitted via the web, and are signed electronically using PIN numbers, could be received by Trinity as soon as 24 hours after they are submitted. Students and parents who do not already have PIN numbers can apply for them at www.pin.ed.gov. If you supply a valid email address the PIN will be emailed to you within 1 to 5 days. You may use your PIN to electronically sign your FAFSA and to access your financial aid history through the National Student Loan Data System www.nslds.ed.gov.

If you filed your FAFSA application electronically last year, you should receive a PIN mailer from the federal processor by the end of the year. If you supplied a valid email address with your 2007-08 FAFSA application you will receive your PIN via email. If you did not supply an email address or the address is not currently valid, the PIN mailer will be sent to your permanent (home) address.

Once your renewal FAFSA has been processed, you will receive your Student Aid Report (SAR) from the federal processor either by email or regular postal delivery.

Review the SAR and make corrections if necessary. If no corrections are necessary, keep the SAR for your files. We will receive your SAR electronically if the Trinity code number is on the SAR. If Trinity is not listed on your SAR, you must contact the Federal Student Aid Information Center at 319-337-5665 and request that Trinity be listed. It is a federal requirement that Trinity receive your SAR electronically. We can no longer accept paper copies of your SAR.

New Procedures

3: Tax Returns
You will no longer be mailing tax returns, W2s and supporting schedules to the Financial Aid Office.

Trinity College will be utilizing the College Board’s Institutional Documentation Service (IDOC) to collect tax information from you and your family.

In early February you will receive mailing instructions from the College Board's IDOC service. Please send W2 statements, signed copies of current year's federal tax returns, supporting schedules, and Federal Verification Worksheet to IDOC by April 15.

Please send all requested documentation to the College Board at the same time and follow the instructions carefully.

*Please note that the Noncustodial Parent's federal tax return should be  sent directly to the Financial Aid Office by April 15th.

Confidentiality is important to us and every effort will be made to ensure the integrity and privacy of data submitted.

If you have any questions regarding the new IDOC procedures, please contact the Financial Aid Office for assistance.

FinAid News: Students will receive an email notification once their renewal award is posted to their financial aid account.
