Financial Aid and Study Away for IDP students

Foreign Study

Financial aid may be used only for participation in programs approved by the Office of International Programs and Educational services.  A list of approved programs is available in the Office of International Programs.

An IDP student must be in good academic standing at Trinity College at the time of application and at the conclusion of the semester just prior to the commencement of the foreign study program in which he or she wishes to participate.

The proposed foreign study program must offer the applicant opportunity to maintain normal progress toward the Bachelor’s degree and to earn the equivalent of at least four transferable credits per semester.

Each IDP student’s financial need will be evaluated on the basis of his or her budget (including round-trip transportation and personal expenses) for the approved foreign study program and need will be calculated using the same procedures as would have been used for the same period of study on campus.  IDP students may receive grant assistance for a term away up to the amount they would have received as a full-time student at the Hartford campus. Additional loans may be awarded to replace work-study and to cover the administrative fee charged by Trinity.  Trinity Grant cannot be used to cover the administrative fee. Under no circumstances will grant dollars be increased over that which the student would have been awarded for the comparable period of time at Trinity.

Domestic Study

The use of Trinity-controlled financial aid for domestic study is limited to participation in the following specific programs:  Trinity La Mama, Twelve College Exchange, Williams-Mystic Maritime Studies Program, Eugene O’Neill National Theatre Institute, SEA Semester at Woods Hole, Duke University Marine Laboratory, Washington Semester Programs of American University. 

Required Documents

You must be accepted to the Study Away program prior to completing required documents. Deadlines: If studying away for the fall semester, return documents by May 15^th; if studying away for the spring semester, return documents by December 1^st.

All students participating in a study away program are required to complete and submit the Power of Attorney/Transfer of Aid form.

All students participating in a non-Trinity Program or a Trinity Exchange Program must complete and submit the Student Study Away Agreement.

All students participating in a non-Trinity Program or a Trinity Exchange Program must submit a copy of their student bill from the host institution.
