About the Allan K. Smith Center for Writing and Rhetoric

The Writing Center, endowed by Allan K. Smith of the Class of 1911, administers Trinity's Writing Foundational Requirement, coordinates the interdisciplinary minor in Writing, Rhetoric, and Media Arts , and provides a variety of courses, support services, and special programs for students, faculty, and the Trinity community.

The Writing Center is also home to the Writing Associates program. Over 40 students take part in the program each year, devoting their time to one-on-one peer tutoring to help other students with brainstorming, structure, grammar, clarity, argument, flow, and of course, revision. Roughly 15 new students join the program each year, learning effective peer tutoring methods through application of theory learned in English 302: Writing Theory and Practice and immersion in weekly tutoring with veteran associates.

The Writing Associates are also in charge of publishing the Writing Center Journal, 115 Vernon. Submissions are open to all students, Writing Associates or not. Writing from all majors is accepted and encouraged. You may submit to the journal by e-mailing trinitywritingcenter@gmail.com.
