Seminars are held on Fridays at 3:00 pm in McCook Auditorium; Refreshments start at 2:45

Do we Know Protons well?

K. Joo
University of Connecticut

proton shapes - by G.A. Miller, Univ. of Washington

Protons are found in the heart of all matter: the nucleus of the atom. Physicists have long known that protons are primarily built of particles called quarks, along with particles called gluons that bind the quarks together. However, a detailed structure of proton is not known at all. An extensive experimental program called as N* physics program is currently being carried out using the CEBAF Large Acceptance Spectrometer (CLAS) at Jefferson Lab in Newport News, Virginia. N* physics program is to study the structure of proton via electromagnetic excitation of nucleon resonances. Recent experimental results will presented and discussed.
