Last fall, students enrolled in Physics 320 (Modern Physical Measurements) performed advanced laboratory experiments on Nuclear Magnetic Resonance, Optical Pumping, and the Franck-Hertz demonstration of quantized atomic energy levels. Students also wrote LabView programs, practiced careful error analysis, and gave oral presentations on physics topics of their choice. All together, these activities form a "first course in experimental physics literacy," introducing students to language and techniques common to all experimental disciplines.
