Trinity College offers Japanese language courses from the beginning through advanced levels. The first two years of instruction are intensive courses, meeting one hour a day, five days a week. The third year and above are non-intensive with three contact hours per week.
The program's goal is to bring the student's language proficiency to the level of a functioning adult in Japanese society. In order to achieve this goal, students must have significant commitment and high motivation for studying the Japanese language. The Japanese Language courses count as credits towards:
- the Plan B Major in Language and Culture Studies in combination with another language, Japanese being either the primary or secondary language in the combination.
- the Asian Studies Major in the International Studies Program.
- General Distribution Requirement for Humanities.
Ample opportunities for study in Japan are available either for a single semester, or for a full year. Similarly, there are a number of job possibilities in Japan after graduation for those who have Japanese language background.
