Special Opportunities

Real-World Opportunities

Trinity's Art History majors pursue significant internship opportunities each year. Many have worked at the Wadsworth Atheneum, in both curatorial departments -- such as European Painting and Sculpture, European Decorative Arts, American Painting, American Decorative Arts, Costumes and Textiles, African-American Art, and Contemporary Art -- and in administrative departments dealing with educational, membership, and public relations aspects of the institution. Other local organizations who have welcomed Trinity students as interns during the academic year include the Connecticut Historical Society, the Hill-Stead Museum, The Mark Twain House, the Connecticut Commission on the Arts, numerous architectural firms, and Real Art Ways -- a nationally distinguished alternative art space. Art History majors also pursue summer internships at Christie's, Sotheby's, the Museum of the City of New York, the Fine Arts Commission of the City of New York, and at many museums throughout the country. While these summer internships carry no academic credit, they provide outstanding experience for students planning to pursue careers in related fields. Teaching Assistantships are open to Art History majors as well -- an opportunity seldom available at the undergraduate level.

Study Away

Trinity's program at the Rome campus, which includes a course in art restoration, serves as an excellent complement to the College's on-campus curriculum. When Art History/English major Dana Meachen '93 spent a semester there writing her thesis on the Sistine Chapel, she not only witnessed the restoration, but ascended the scaffolding to feel the texture of the ceiling itself. Art History majors often opt to study in Florence, Paris, Strasbourg, Avignon, Madrid, and London -- not to mention Western Samoa and Asia.
