If you have always loved to create or to perform, and have studied one or more of the arts with passion... if the idea of talking about art and making art with a community of like-minded students appeals to you... if you're ready to look at the arts in a larger context, studying the artistic ideas which defined, if not revolutionized, society and culture... if the possibility of meeting working artists from all the creative disciplines excites you... if you like the idea of an arts-rich campus environment set in a city with a vibrant arts scene... if you are eager to sample the rich offerings of a liberal arts college, but want to keep in touch with your creative side...

Trinity's InterArts Program may be for you.

InterArts Program is an innovative, multidisciplinary program designed for a select group of outstanding students who share a deep interest in the arts. The two-year program enrolls about 18 in each entering class, all students chosen for their artistic talents, their commitment to learning from students and faculty in other artistic practices, and their potential to excel in an arts-rich academic environment.

InterArts is not a major; the program attracts both students who may be considering a major in the arts as well as for those who plan to major in other fields. Students in InterArts are challenged to explore a great range of human creativity in a series of seminars that delve into crucial questions that all serious artists face: what purpose—if any—does art serve? What are artists' responsibilities to society? What roles do issues of race, gender, and class play in making and understanding art? What are the fundamental sources of artistic creation?

Courses in the program provide opportunities to hone artistic skills and to discover new art forms and perhaps unexpected talents. Creative projects are integrated into the InterArts curriculum, side by side with the writing, speaking, and analytical assignments that are at the heart of all liberal arts courses. The program's final course the "Arts Practicum" culminates in an "Evening of Art"that is designed and mounted entirely by the InterArts students themselves.

InterArts is a rigorous academic program. But it has a social dimension that many participants find adds depth to their four years at Trinity. Because students share three classes, go as a group to arts and cultural events, and work on creative projects together, they often forge lasting friendships that are maintained throughout their time at Trinity and beyond.

Program participants consistently remark on the pleasure of sharing an intense academic experience with students in all creative disciplines: "When I came to Trinity, I thought I'd get to know a lot of sculptors and poets, because those were my chief interests," a recent program graduate said. "Now, because of InterArts, some of my best friends are dancers and actors, and I've learned a lot from them about my own creative work."
