Human Rights Program
RESEARCH PAPER COMPETITION

Part of the Debating Rights initiative, the Human Rights Program will sponsor a research paper competition for Trinity undergraduate students beginning in 2007-08.   Papers can be on any topic relating to human rights, broadly defined, but they must grapple with contending sides of an issue.  Papers should be 10-15 pages in length, double-spaced.  The paper will be judged by a faculty panel on the basis of the following criteria:  significance of argument; consideration of alternative viewpoints; range of sources; and clarity of organization and writing.  The deadline is May 15, and awards will be presented in September at the Summer Fellows Symposium.  Please direct any questions to Prof. Sonia Cardenas (Sonia.Cardenas@trincoll.edu).

Elie Wiesel Prize in Ethics Essay Contest.  Each year the Elie Wiesel Foundation sponsors a competition for the best essays on ethics by college juniors and seniors, with a first prize of $5000.  Trinity will hold an internal competition in 2007, with a deadline of November 9 and a $500 award for the best essay (the final deadline is December 7).  Interested students should contact Professors Sonia Cardenas, Adrienne Fulco, or Mark Silk.  See the Elie Wiesel Foundation for Humanity for further details, including past winners.
