Pathways to Teaching

Trinity students who are interested in teaching are encouraged to explore different pathways and decide which are most appropriate for their personal goals and level of experience.

  1. Mentoring and tutoring opportunities with students in Hartford and beyond

  2. Public school teaching certification while earning an undergraduate degree at Trinity, via the University of Saint Joseph consortial program

  3. Public school teaching opportunities after receiving an undergraduate degree, via alternate route or graduate school programs

  4. Private school or international school teaching positions, which do not require state-approved certification  

As the first step, the Educational Studies faculty strongly recommend that students enroll in our introductory-level course, Ed 200: Analyzing Schools, which integrates readings and coursework on learning and inequality with a weekly community-learning placement in a nearby Hartford public school classroom. Offered each semester.
