Each incoming class is asked to read a book over the summer and be prepared to discuss it during the opening days of the school year. This year’s choice is The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot.
Students of the Class of 2018 will read this critically acclaimed book during the summer, then will attend a thought-provoking forum with members of the Lacks family. All first-year students attend this event during Orientation.
We invite you to reflect on the human costs that ensue when ethics, race, and the commercialization of science collide.
