Your first Trinity assignment is here!
Each incoming class is asked to read a book over the summer and be prepared to discuss it during the opening days of the school year. This year’s choice is Acts of Faith, by Eboo Patel.
Here's what James F. Jones, Jr., Trinity's President, has to say:
As the president of Trinity College and a member of the faculty, it is my pleasant duty to present your first reading assignment of your college career.
This year’s selection is by one of our country's most prominent faith leaders. He is also the founder and president of the Interfaith Youth Core, a nonprofit organization that works internationally to promote religious pluralism.
Dr. Patel will be at Trinity to address your class at the opening of the fall semester, forming the basis for discussion during your first days at Trinity.
And from Dr. Homayra Ziad, Assistant Professor of Religion:
As our world experiences a rise in multiple forms of religious violence, we find that the foot-soldiers of extremism are often the young. Their energy, passion and single-mindedness make youth susceptible to the siren-song of extremist ideologies. Eboo Patel asks the critical question, “If we had invested in our youth programs, could we have gotten to those young people first?”
The answer to this question is a resounding, “Yes”!
