Trinity College is an independent, nonsectarian liberal arts college for men and women, with approximately 2,200 undergraduate students and 180 faculty members, located in Hartford, Connecticut.  For all faculty positions, completion of the Ph.D. or appropriate equivalent is expected. Candidates should have a strong commitment to undergraduate and interdisciplinary teaching in a liberal arts context, and a well-articulated plan for sustained research.

Paul E. Raether Distinguished Professor of Urban Studies
Trinity College seeks a geographer to fill the newly endowed chair for the Paul E. Raether Distinguished Professorship in Urban Studies beginning in fall 2010. We expect such a scholar to offer courses and conduct research in one or more of the following subfields: environmental geography, cultural geography and/or political geography. We are eager for a colleague who has a strong interdisciplinary and global orientation, even as s/he will probably have a strong investment in empirical work within one or more urban localities. This scholar is also expected to participate in the development of the urban studies curriculum. Department of Engineering
The Engineering Department of Trinity College invites applications to fill a tenure-track position in Mechanical Engineering at the Assistant Professor level starting fall 2010. Trinity has an ABET-accredited Engineering Program. The successful candidate will teach primarily undergraduate courses in mechanical engineering and be committed to teaching science courses for non-science majors. Candidates must have an earned doctorate in mechanical engineering. Scholarly work in structural analysis, micro/nano/biomechanics, mechatronics, robotics, and MEMS are particularly welcome. Trinity College strongly encourages all faculty members to conduct research in collaboration with other faculty and with undergraduates. Department of Physics
The Physics Department invites applications for a tenure-track position as Assistant Professor of Physics, beginning July 1, 2010. Department of Physics
The Physics Department invites applications for the position of laboratory instructor. Candidates should have an advanced degree (masters or Ph.D.) in physics or a closely related field by the time of the appointment, and a demonstrated interest and ability in teaching. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the educational mission of the Department by teaching laboratories in our introductory undergraduate courses and contributing to the continued innovation and development in these courses. Duties for the position include working closely with the Physics Department faculty, giving short laboratory lectures, supervising student work in the laboratory, overseeing and training student teaching assistants, and grading laboratory assignments. Department of Athletics
Trinity College invites applications and nominations for the position of Director of Athletics and Chair of Physical Education. A highly selective coeducational institution of 2,200 students and 210 faculty, with a long tradition of both academic and athletic excellence, Trinity College’s academic mission is to “foster critical thinking, free the mind of parochialism and prejudice, and prepare students to lead examined lives that are personally satisfying, civically responsible, and socially useful.” As a member of The New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC), which includes eleven of the finest liberal arts colleges and universities in the United States, Trinity participates in a conference that enjoys a long tradition of success both in meeting high standards of athletic performance and in helping every student realize his or her full capabilities. The college is located in the city of Hartford, the capital of Connecticut, halfway between New York City and Boston.

Responsibilities: The Director of Athletics reports directly to the Dean of Faculty, who is the Vice President for Academic Affairs. The Director is responsible for the 29 varsity intercollegiate sports, intramural as well as recreational programs, the supervision of the college’s Physical Education Department, and all of the College’s athletic facilities. The director will be responsible for compliance with all policies, rules, and regulations of Trinity College, NESCAC and NCAA, to which it belongs. In coordination and cooperation with the development office at the College, the Athletic Director will enthusiastically fundraise for the Department. The successful candidate will be expected to carry on Trinity’s history of excellence in intercollegiate athletics and ensure that all students who love sports will find ways to participate.

Qualifications: The committee will be searching for an Athletic Director who will, in the great NESCAC tradition, nurture sportsmanship and skill in equal measure, someone who will always bring into balance athletic and academic excellence. The successful candidate is expected to have the highest standards of integrity, to understand all coaching and gender equity issues, to demonstrate a commitment to diversity, to be able to mentor and evaluate staff effectively. Additionally, the director should be able to work collaboratively with other parts of the College community. He or she must have the proven ability to manage complicated budgets and be an articulate and passionate spokesperson for Trinity athletics and Trinity College. Knowledge of NCAA regulations at the Division III level and experience in a senior administrative position will be expected.

Highly desirable qualifications include a master’s degree, coaching experience, and at least five years of senior level experience in athletics administration.

Compensation: Open and competitive; commensurate with experience.

Starting Date: It is anticipated that the successful candidate will assume his or her duties July 1, 2010.

Ann Plato Pre/Post-Doctoral Diversity Fellowship
Trinity College invites applications for a one-year pre- or post-doctoral fellowship to promote diversity at our nationally recognized liberal arts college in Hartford, Connecticut. Ann Plato Fellows will join the faculty in one of our 30 academic departments or interdisciplinary programs, interact regularly with colleagues and students on campus, and work on their own research. Pre-doctoral fellows will teach one course during the year; post-doctoral fellows will teach two courses.

Date of fellowship: September 1, 2010 to May 31, 2011.

Stipend: Between mid-$40,000 (pre-doctoral) to mid-$50,000 (post-doctoral), plus health benefits, office space, computer, conference travel expenses, and assistance in finding housing near campus.
