Bantam Alumni Mentoring (BAM)

BAM acts as a vehicle to connect you to people who work in certain fields, hold particular jobs or attend schools in which you might be interested. It allows you the opportunity to gather information, establish contacts and referrals, and acquire “inside” knowledge about a specific career, job type, or graduate program. Mentoring allows you the chance to become more focused in your career plan and understand the best way to enter that field.

BAM is not a job-placement or job-leads service. Mentors are not expected to provide students or fellow alumni with referrals to job openings. Learn more about getting started with BAM.

When using BAM please be sure to note how the alumnus/a prefers to be contacted and respect those wishes. If an alumnus/a indicates not to be called at home, please refrain from calling the home number even if it is included in the profile. To find each mentor's preferences, read the “Bantam Alumni Mentoring” section at the bottom of the individual’s personal profile page.

How to Sign Up for Practice Interviews

Alumni/ae can provide information about a career field which you may be considering for a summer job, academic internship, volunteer experience or entry-level position. Although you should not seek employment from alumni, through an informational interview, they may offer suggestions about where to look next to find an actual job. They may refer you to other organizations or may alert you to any positions available in their organization.

Informational Interviews: What They Are

This is one of the most effective means which to learn about a career field. The purpose is to explore a particular field or organization and learn the "ins and outs" of that field from a practitioner. Rather than being asked questions, you are the questioner, gathering information that will help you evaluate your interest in and suitability for a particular career field. An individual whom you interview can also critique your resume. Although you may not specifically learn of a job opening, informational interviewing will often provide leads as to where to begin a successful job search campaign and will help you choose between fields. See the Informational Interview Guide . If you would like to assist in creating more alumni/ae profiles, please let us know. We are more than happy to assist you in putting together an interview for other students to learn from. Please contact Career Services at career-services@trincoll.edu or 860.297.2080 if you are interested.
