AGENCY FUNCTION: Born in the summer of 1997, the Hartford Wolf Pack has firmly established itself as one of the premier franchises in the American Hockey League, the 30-team professional player-development league for the National Hockey League. The Wolf Pack are the top player-development team of the NHL's New York Rangers. Formerly the Binghamton Rangers, the team relocated to Hartford in June 1997. The team was re-christened the “Wolf Pack” as a tribute to the state of Connecticut’s rich naval tradition. A wolf pack is a group of submarines gathered in an attack formation. The team plays its 38 home games each year at the XL Center in downtown Hartford. Over the years, the Wolf Pack have celebrated numerous accomplishments and successes, highlighted by a Calder Cup championship in 2000. With their victory over the Rochester Americans in Game Six of the Calder Cup Finals that season, the Pack brought home Hartford’s first-ever pro sports championship. In terms of player development, the Wolf Pack over their 17-year history have groomed several dozen young players who have moved on from the Pack to enjoy solid NHL careers. Among the former Wolf Pack players who have played important roles recently for the parent New York Rangers are: Ryan Callahan, Dan Girardi, Ryan McDonagh, Mats Zuccarello, Chris Kreider, Carl Hagelin, Cam Talbot, Dominic Moore and J.T. Miller. All told, no fewer than 231 players who have suited up with the Wolf Pack have also played in the NHL. The Wolf Pack has entertained nearly 3.7 million fans over the years, and has been a dedicated supporter of countless community endeavors.
