AGENCY FUNCTION: The Connecticut Conference of Municipalities (CCM) is Connecticut's association of cities and towns. CCM represents municipalities at the General Assembly, before the state executive branch and regulatory agencies, and in the courts. CCM provides member cities and towns with a wide array of other services, including management assistance, individualized inquiry service, assistance in municipal labor relations, technical assistance and training, policy development, research and analysis, publications, information programs, and service programs such as workers' compensation, liability-automobile-property, risk management, energy cost containment, and revenue collection assistance. Federal representation is provided by CCM in conjunction with the National League of Cities. CCM was founded in 1966. CCM is governed by a Board of Directors, elected by the member municipalities, with due consideration given to geographical representation, municipalities of different sizes, and balance of political parties. Numerous committees of municipal officials participate in the development of CCM policy and programs. CCM has offices in New Haven (the headquarters) and Hartford.
INTERN ACTIVITIES: Our Legislative Intern will assist the advocacy staff with implementing CCM’s 2013 Legislative Agenda, tracking and monitoring legislative meetings, public hearings, legislation, and amendments. The position will also entail research of floor debates, legislative history, opposition/support for current law and/or pending legislation to assist the advocacy team in crafting and executing an effective lobbying strategy, and developing and updating certain legislative publications. In addition, the intern will also assist with maintaining and updating our Legislative Action Center (www.ccm-lac.org); organizing and staffing CCM’s Legislative Committee meetings; assisting with distribution of testimony, legislative position papers and statements; and supporting public relations efforts.

Serve as link between lobbyists at Legislative Office Building or Capitol. Assist with special projects and events, and handle variety of legislative tasks to assist the lobbying team.
While CCM’s headquarters are located in New Haven, most of the intern’s time will be spent in Hartford, either at the Legislative Office Building/Capitol or in our Hartford Office (at 40 Hungerford Street).
HOURS PER WEEK: Full-Time preferred, although Part-Time will definitely be considered. Hours are completely flexible and can be worked around individual class schedules.
INTERNSHIP AVAILABLE: January – June 2013, this has the possibility of being extended through the summer if desired.
SPECIAL SKILLS/REQUIREMENTS FOR INTERNSHIP: Proficient with a computer, especially Excel and Word; in-depth understanding of internet and how to search it; excellent analytical skills and ability to articulate both verbally and in writing the conclusion of research; self-starter and able to work independently.
