Mayor's Visit
Trinity's La Voz Latina, in collaboration with SGA, has invited Hartford Mayor Pedro E. Segarra to speak at Trinity on September 15 at 4:30 PM.
Democracy in Film Series
The Department of Language and Culture Studies will showcase a variety of internationally acclaimed films that interrogate our understanding of the promises and limits of democracy. In this semester-long series titled "Democracy in Film", we will explore such topics as the role o f the United States in promoting democracy around the world, the recourse to violence and/or revolution, the possibility of alternative modes of governance, and the impact of a nation¹s past on its political present. From Panama to North Africa to Soviet Russia, the films will shuttle across time and space and observe, through distinct lenses, the diverse forms democracy can take.
Each film will be presented by a different member of the Language and Culture Studies department, who will lead a discussion following the screening. For more information, contact Josh King (joshua.king@trincoll.edu) and Sara Kippur (sara.kippur@trincoll.edu).
Center for Teaching and Learning
The Center for Teaching and Learning, working together with Seth Markle, will organize a series of three readings/discussions around the topic of adultism, democracy in the classroom, and equalizing relations between students and faculty. For more information, please visit: Democracy Project Activities.
Weekly Democracy Table in Mather Hall
In an effort to facilitate intellectual discussion and engagement outside of the classroom, Participating in Democracy will be hosting a lunch series hosted by a rotating cast of faculty and staff volunteers. All members of the Trinity Community are invited and encouraged to attend. Topics will either be determined by the hosts or the group upon convening.
