AGENCY FUNCTION: Founded in 1978, the Hartford Food System is one of the state’s oldest and best established organizations dedicated to fighting hunger and improving nutrition on the grassroots level.  We administer an array of programs, including a parents committee advocating for school food improvements, a 24-acre vegetable farm that grows food for needy individuals, an urban agriculture mini-farm on a formerly abandoned lot, a food policy council, an inner-city grocery retail project, and extensive outreach and advocacy in the community.

 

INTERN ACTIVITES: Research on hunger and nutrition problems in Hartford, with an emphasis on diet-related diseases; Assisting with urban agriculture programs; Outreach to disadvantaged neighborhoods and constituencies.

 

HOURS PER WEEK: Flexible, depending on student’s interest
