AGENCY FUNCTION: HART is the oldest existing community organizing group in New England, and among the oldest in the US.  We engage in multi-issue, multi-neighborhood, grassroots community organizing. The goal of our Community Organizing work is to empower Hartford residents to effectively resolve neighborhood and citywide issues. HART provides the infrastructure through which Hartford residents can participate in effective, results-oriented issue campaigns to improve their own communities. HART's Community Organizing program focuses on engaging the participation of hundreds of Hartford residents to improve community conditions while building their own skills and knowledge and sense of empowerment.

 

INTERN ACTIVITIES:  Interns will gain experience in grassroots community organizing through assisting HART in its various problem solving campaigns (i.e. Problem Property Campaign, Youth Organizing, Public Safety, Immigrant & Refugee Rights, and more). Activities include assisting staff in outreach & recruitment of Hartford residents; conducting issue research; coordinating and attending neighborhood meetings and more.
