AGENCY FUNCTION:  Foodshare is the regional food bank, distributing over 12 tons of food per day to more than 400 local pantries, community kitchens, shelters and other social service organizations that feed hungry people in Hartford and Tolland counties. These nonprofits serve children, families and seniors, and provide over a quarter of a million meals each month. Major program emphases include operation of a food bank to salvage and redistribute healthy but non-sellable food, and increasing individual and community awareness and action concerning hunger and related issues. INTERN ACTIVITIES:  Internships are available various areas, including public relations/communications, development, special events planning, agency relations, hunger and nutrition education, advocacy, produce recovery (summer only). Specific events in the area of development include a Thanksgiving food and fund drive in the fall, NALC (National Association of Letter Carriers) food drive in the spring and the Walk Against Hunger in early May.

 

HOURS PER WEEK:  8-12 (fall and spring), up to full-time available (particularly in summer)
