AGENCY FUNCTION:  For detailed information of the Office of Policy and Management (OPM) go to www.ct.gov/opm . OPM functions as the Governor’s staff agency and plays a central role in state government, providing the information and analysis used to formulate public policy for the State.  The agency is headed by a Secretary and Deputy Secretary; and has 8 divisions which report to the Office of the Secretary:

1. Budget and Financial Management
2. Criminal Justice Policy and Planning
3. Office of Finance
4. Intergovernmental Policy
5. Office of Labor Relations
6. Policy Development and Planning
7. Office of Transportation Policy
8. Administration (which includes Human Resources, Organizational and Staff Development,  Business Operations, Accounting/Audit and Information Systems Support)

Legal and legislative liaison functions are included under the Office of the Secretary.

As the Governor’s staff agency, OPM plays several critical roles; among them are:

• Preparing the Governor’s budget proposal and implementing the execution of the budget as adopted by the General Assembly
• Analyzing and assessing the financial, programmatic, and legislative proposals of State agencies, the General Assembly, and the federal government
• Coordinating/leading interagency problem-solving efforts 

In addition, OPM is responsible for the administration of grant programs, staffing committees and boards, and authoring key publications and reports.

 INTERN ACTIVITIES:   Internships can be customized to meet the students’ interests and educational background.  For interns interested in the legislative process, activities include obtaining, coordinating and distributing legislative information as well as monitoring all committee meetings and public hearings, and informing the office on the status of activities.
