AGENCY FUNCTION: Connecticut’s leading resource for cities/towns seeking to comprehensively revitalize their “main street” districts. A member of the National Main Street network, CMSC is a statewide, nonprofit organization committed to bringing the state’s downtown commercial districts back to life.

 

INTERN ACTIVITIES: Working independently, the intern will research model smart-growth and downtown-friendly policies and legislation on the national and state levels, contacting subject experts, online resources and conducting interviews. Intern will be provided information on current issues and challenges and will cite best practices that describe how these challenges can be addressed in Connecticut. Will assist in the development of proposals that will lead to a legislative agenda for healthy downtowns in CT. Will be exposed to the Main Street Four Point Approach to Downtown Revitalization, developed by the National Trust for Historic Preservations’ National Main Street Center and practiced in over 1800 communities nationwide, as well as recent legislation introduced in the Connecticut General Assembly.
