INTERN ACTIVITIES:  Bradley, Foster & Sargent, Inc. has sponsored an internship program since 2000. Our internship program is a form of independent study which offers a student the opportunity to augment classroom learning by working in a business organization. Bradley, Foster & Sargent, Inc. seeks to attract for its internship program students who have an interest in the financial management field an, more specifically, investment management. Most interns will have previously taken courses that are relevant to the field.

Interns are given the opportunity to:

  • Obtain an understanding of the work environment, its participants and its customs;
  • Participate in research and information-gathering activites;
  • Prepare and present the findings of their research to the firm’s Investment Committee;
  • Attend an analyst meeting or listen to an analyst conference call; and
  • Perform various operational support tasks; including, but not limited to:

Administration – filing

Litigation – preparing claim forms for submission

Marketing – maintaining the client database and assembling packages for mailing to clients

Performance – testing compliance and reporting

In addition, interns will be given suggested readings which are intended to help them understand the fundamentals of the active and passive approaches to equity management.

Keith LaRose, a Principal in the firm, is a Trinity College alumnus.

HOURS PER WEEK:  Interns work 8-10 hours per week with a minimum of 100 hours per semester.

Approximately 25% of an intern’s time is spent on research and 75% is spent on administrative assignments. A Portfolio Manager or the Director of Research collaborated with each intern on their research assignment; the Senior Operations Officer supervises the performance of their tasks. Interns receive the same orientation and training given to all new hires, including a review of Company policies.
