How It's Done

We do our best to accommodate the needs of our College clients in-house at no charge. However, limited staffing and scheduling constraints can necessitate our referring you to outside design and production resources. These freelance costs will be billed to the client. The Communications Office will act as a consultant on these projects and ensure that the College's Graphic Identity Standards are applied.

If photography or artwork is needed, and the Communications Office does not have appropriate resources, the client may be charged for external services.

The process:

  • Communications Office reviews project request form.

  • We contact you to set up a meeting (if necessary).

  • You meet with a Communications staff person to discuss marketing objectives (target audience), publication needs, schedules, and production process.

  • Design/editorial/photography assignments are made. Project manager forwards a project schedule.

  • If you, the client, are providing copy, you will need to forward final, approved copy via e-mail or on disk with laser printout to Creative Services.

  • Research/design phase begins.

  • Designer/project manager presents concepts to client for review.

  • First layout proof is sent to client. Client proofreads and marks up copy with any changes.

  • Vendor bids are received, and a vendor is chosen. At this stage, client must provide a purchase order number to production manager.

  • Second layout proof is sent to client. Client carefully proofreads and marks any changes.

  • Third—and most likely final—layout proof to client. Client carefully proofreads and marks any final changes.

  • Blueline (a final printer's proof) and color proof are sent to Creative Services.

  • Client approves printer's proof with signoff.

  • Printed piece is delivered.
