James Murren ’83

James Murren has been chairman and CEO of MGM Resorts International since 2008. Previously, he served in various roles at MGM Mirage, including chief operating officer, chief financial officer, and treasurer. Prior to joining MGM in 1998, he spent 14 years on Wall Street as a top-ranked equity analyst, first with the firm Cyrus J. Lawrence and later as director of research and managing director at Deutsche Bank.

Murren holds leadership roles with several corporate and nonprofit entities, including the Murren Family Foundation (board member and secretary); The Brookings Institution (board member); the American Gaming Association (chairman); the University of Nevada-Reno Foundation (trustee emeritus); and the National Infrastructure Advisory Council. He currently serves as the Information Services and Facilities Subcommittee co-chair and is also a member of the Finance Subcommittee.

A double major in art history and urban studies at Trinity, Murren served previously on the College’s Board of Fellows, and he was honored in 2003 with Trinity’s Gary McQuaid Award. He resides in Las Vegas with his wife, Heather Hay Murren.
