Trinity to Name Its First College Chapel Curator

Christopher Row ’91, is Phi Beta Kappa Graduate

What: Christopher D.H. Row ’91, will be commissioned as the Trinity College’s first Chapel Curator during Vespers.

When: Sunday, November 8 at 5:15 p.m. A progressive dinner and architectural tour will follow at 6 p.m.

Where: The Trinity College Chapel, 300 Summit Street, Hartford.

Background: In recognition of his extraordinary knowledge of the Chapel and his dedication to educational ministry, Row will be named Trinity’s first Chapel Curator. Row already plays a crucial role on the Friends of the Chapel Advisory Board, and his new commission will formalize his role in advising the chaplain and the College on how best to care for one of the school’s iconic buildings.

The title of Curator will be bestowed on Row by President James F. Jones, Jr.

Of this distinction, Trinity Chaplan Allison Read said it is “a title and role which I know Christopher will bear with care, thoughtfulness, and devotion.”

Row is a 1991 Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Trinity. He earned his M.Div. from Harvard Divinity School as well as his A.M. and Ph.D. degrees in art and architectural history from Harvard University.

His dissertation examined the architectural philosophies of P.H. Frohman, architect of the Trinity College Chapel and Washington National Cathedral. Row is a member of the faculty in the Department of Religion and Ethics at Groton School, where he also serves as the assistant chaplain.

“The Trinity College Chapel, even in its unfinished state, is one of the finest examples of Gothic Revival architecture in the entire world,” said Row. “When completed in all its magnificence, as lovingly envisioned by its architect, the Chapel will stand as he and its donor intended: as a peerless testament to the glory of God.”

This event is free and open to the public.  For more information, please contact Jamie Bradstreet at 860/297-2026, or by email at Jamie.Bradstreet@trincoll.edu.
