Masur, who received his Ph.D. and Master’s Degree from Princeton University in New Jersey which is also Springsteen’s home state, has been a fan of “the Boss” for 36 years and has taught several courses at Trinity on the American icon. Springsteen performed in Hartford on Wednesday, August 19, and Masur made sure to be in attendance.
“It was great being at the show outdoors on a sultry Hartford night,” he said. “I was talking to the people sitting next to me who mentioned the piece in
The Hartford Courant. When I told them it was me they couldn't believe it. We had a great conversation about Springsteen and his music and our favorite shows going back thirty years. When he played
Born to Run, I closed my eyes and screamed the lyrics along with twenty thousand other new-found friends.”
Masur will be at Barnes & Noble Tribeca in New York City for a reading and signing on Monday, September 21 at 7 p.m. and appearing at the Westport Public Library in Connecticut, October 19 at 7:30 p.m.
Masur is the Director of the American Studies Department at Trinity and teaches American cultural and intellectual history. His previous books include
The Soiling of Old Glory: The Story of a Photograph That Shocked America;
