Retiring Race (as a Genetic Construct): Implications for Biology and Society
What: The Anthropology Department at Trinity College is hosting Alan Goodman, Professor of Biological Anthropology at Hampshire College, to give a talk about the problematic use of “race” in science. The talk is co-sponsored by the Sociology, Biology, and Educational Studies programs.

Where: Washington Room in Mather Hall on the Trinity College campus.
Background: Alan Goodman, professor of biological anthropology at Hampshire College, teaches and writes on the health and nutritional consequences of political-economic processes including poverty, inequality and racism. He has written extensively on the idea of race in science and recently helped create a traveling museum exhibit and website on this topic (understandingrace.org) Goodman received his Ph.D. in anthropology from the University of Massachusetts and was a postdoctoral fellow in International Nutrition at the University of Connecticut and a research fellow in stress physiology at Karolinska Institute, Stockholm. He is the former Dean of Natural Sciences at Hampshire College and the former President of the American Anthropological Association.
