World Renowned Soprano Christine Brewer to Join Group in Concert
What: Former and current members of The Accidentals, Trinity’s all-male a cappella singing group, will celebrate their 15th anniversary with a cocktail party, brunch, concert and reunion dinner. The Accidentals will be joined in their concert by Christine Brewer, a Grammy Award winning American opera star.
When/Where: March 1, 2008 ~ 6:00 p.m. at the Trinity College chapel.
Background: The Accidentals were founded in 1993 as an all-male a cappella group whose repertoire includes classic rock, R&B, barbershop music, jazz and pop. The group rehearses five days a week and holds performances throughout the year, both on and off campus.
Christine Brewer has appeared with many of the world’s great conductors and has performed her broad repertoire regularly with the world’s leading orchestras. She has performed in opera, concerts and in recitals. She has appeared at Wigmore Hall in London, Lincoln Center in New York City, as well as in Washington D.C., Vancouver, Santa Fe, Cleveland, St. Louis and Portland, Maine.
Highlights of her 2007-08 season include singing roles with the Paris Opera, the Philadelphia Orchestra and in Carnegie Hall. She can also be heard in Leipzig, Germany; Florence, Italy; Dallas, Atlanta and St. Louis, among other music venues around the world.
Her recordings include ”Saint Louis Woman,” “Music for a while,” Strauss’s Four Last Songs, Wagner’s Liebestod, and Mozart’s Requiem with the Atlanta Symphony. She has also recorded Fidelio with the London Symphony Orchestra, Tristan und Isolde with the BBC Symphony Orchestra and “Great Operatic Arias” with the London Philharmonic.
Since their inception in 1993, the Accidentals have enjoyed an illustrious performance record. In addition to frequent on-campus gigs and private functions, they've performed at the 1996 Presidential Debates, the inauguration of the Connecticut Children's Hospital, the ATP World Doubles Championship, The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, DC, Hartford's own Wadsworth Atheneum, the Old Greenwich First Light Festival, and numerous colleges and institutions throughout the United States. In 2005, and 2007 the Accidentals came in first place at the Nutmeg A Cappella Slam, held in Rockville, CT. Both wins represent the only two times the Accidentals have attended the competition. This March The Accidentals will be going on their first international tour.
