Hartford, Conn. - Mikhael Borgonos ‘08 was recently appointed to the Connecticut Commission on Community Service by Gov. Jodi Rell. He is one of two Trinity affiliates appointed to the Commission, joining Joseph Barber, Director of Community and Civic Engagement. The Commission was established to administer programs under the National and Community Service Trust Act of 1993.
The objective of the Commission is to foster a vibrant culture of service through volunteerism by securing and granting funds; selecting, training and monitoring high-quality grantees; recognizing the success and effectiveness of volunteer programs and activities; developing and sharing resources; creating networks among volunteer organizations; serving as a bridge between the public and nonprofit sectors; and supporting and publicly recognizing community service on college campuses.
“This is truly a testament to the excellent Legislative Internship Program that Trinity has through the Political Science Department,” Borgonos said.
Burgonos, who was given one of two positions on the Commission for youth, is heavily involved in community service projects and groups on campus including Trinity Alumni Ambassadors, the Asian-American Student Association, and the alumni office. He is also a resident assistant.
