Trinity College Executive Wins Hartford Business Journal Award
HARTFORD, Conn., November 16, 2007 – Early Reese, treasurer and chief financial officer of Trinity College, Thursday was named CFO of the Year for 2007 in a competition sponsored by the Hartford Business Journal.
Reese, who has been in his Trinity post for three years, won in the “Large Non-Profit” category. The award was given to Reese at a luncheon at the Bond on Asylum Street in downtown Hartford. Thursday’s “CFO of the Year Award Program” was the first of its kind to be held by the Business Journal. The commendation is intended to honor those financial professionals in the Greater Hartford region for “outstanding performance in their roles as corporate financial stewards.”
Reese, who will be leaving Trinity in December to become executive vice president and chief financial officer of the United Negro College Fund in Fairfax, Va., was nominated for the award by James F. Jones, Jr., President and Trinity College Professor in the Humanities.
Jones hailed the selection of Reese. “Since Early’s arrival at Trinity on May 19, 2005, he has had an immediate and profound impact in helping to better secure the financial health of the College,” Jones said.
During his tenure, Reese helped Trinity achieve three consecutive balanced budgets as well as record growth in the College’s endowment and the development of systematic and transparent financial management practices. Reese also restored $30 million to Trinity’s capital and building operating reserves.
Ronald Joyce, vice president of advancement at Trinity, has called Reese “a pro’s pro” and “a very uncommon CFO in that he combines all the right skills you seek from a financial and accounting point of view.”
Before arriving at Trinity, Reese had 30 years’ experience at PriceWaterhouseCoopers, Philip Morris and the U.S. Olympic Committee. Reese’s next career stop, the United Negro College Fund, provides operating monies for 39 colleges, scholarships and internship programs for low-income students.
