Berkeley, CA / July 13, 2007 - Sol Productions in Venezuela, Inc., will release its first feature-length documentary film this September. ¿Puedo Hablar? / May I Speak? chronicles the 2006 Venezuelan presidential elections, in which Hugo Chavez, a noted Bush critic and one of Time Magazine's 100 Most Influential People in the World, was re-elected to a second six-year term.
The seventy-five minute documentary film is currently set to premiere at the Providence Latin American Film Festival on Sunday, September 23rd.
Following its appearance at the Festival, it will then be screened at over fifty colleges and universities throughout the United States and Europe throughout the fall. Events are currently scheduled at Trinity, Harvard, Yale, Georgetown, and Cambridge.
The team of alumni at Sol Productions spent two months in Venezuela filming "Puedo Hablar? / May I Speak?", following both candidates as they raced towards the December 3rd elections. The film offers its audience a snapshot portrait of a Venezuelan society at a crossroads; a re-elected president, challenged by a reformed and mounting opposition; a valuable starting block for any debate on current Venezuelan politics. The production team of four journeyed to six different regions of Venezuela, shooting everywhere from the notorious barrios of Caracas to the oil-rich Lake Maracaibo, from a city of five million to an Amazonian pueblo of twenty-three, criss-crossing the country in everything from Chavista motocicletas to dug-out canoes and a private jet.

The team of three Trinity alumni filmmakers work to produce innovative political documentary films which narrative lesser-heard stories of the world, in an innovative style and format which appeals to an MTV-generation audience. Their first film series, "Democracy in Dakar," which chronicled the role of musicians in Senegalese politics, has been featured in the Urbanworld Film Festival, the Bronx Film Festival, and DC Shorts, as well as being selected for Al Gore's Current TV.
Sol Productions is made up of Maureen Masterson of Lincoln, Massachusetts, Magee McIlvaine of Accokeek, Maryland, and Christopher Moore of Holderness, New Hampshire. All three are graduates of Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut.
