Before Hugh Ogden died on December 31, 2006 when he fell through a sheet of ice near his Maine cabin, his family and colleagues had been working on a surprise for his 70th birthday: a celebration and poetry prize in his name. Though he never knew, the celebration was held at Reunion 2007, and the prize fund had been endowed.
In his honor, the Ogden prize will be awarded annually to a Trinity alumnus/a that can be nominated from anyone within or outside of the Trinity community, or individuals may nominate themselves. All nominations must be submitted by January 31, 2008, and should include name, contact information of the poet (if available), and a couple of sentences describing why the poet should be considered.
Eligible candidates must have been published in a journal, book, or other media within two years prior to their nomination. The Ogden prize winner will return to Trinity to deliver a reading and will receive an honorarium. All travel expenses and lodging will be paid for in full by the prize fund. The first reading will take place in the 2008-2009 academic year.
