Alesina to speak on Italy following Italy’s national election
What: Professor and political economist Alberto Alesina of Harvard University will visit Trinity College to give a public lecture, The Future of Italy: The Invisible Hand or the Grabbing Hand?. Professor Alesina will take stock of Italy's situation and prospects a week after Italy's national election, which is largely about whether, how, and how much to implement market reforms in a system of social democracy beset by corruption, organized crime, and a time bomb of unfunded entitlements. The lecture is co-sponsored by the Cesare Barbieri Endowment for Italian Culture and the Shelby Cullom Davis Endowment. It will be followed by a reception with refreshments.

Background:
Alberto Alesina, one of the world's finest political economists, is Nathaniel Ropes Professor of Economics and the Director of Graduate Studies at Harvard University and Research Fellow at the National Bureau of Economic Research. He is the author of The Future of Europe: Reform or Decline (MIT Press) and Fighting Poverty in the U.S. and Europe: A World of Difference (Oxford U. Press). He delivers sharp analysis and wise insight in refreshingly clear language.
