Press Release

Trinity Alumna Yolanda Flamino (’99) to run Olympic Marathon Trials

Boston, Mass. - Yolanda Flamino, Trinity class of 1999, will run in the United States Women Olympic Marathon Trials on Sunday, April 20 at 8:00 a.m.  The event takes place in Boston, Mass. where many alumni in the area are planning to attend the event to support Flamino, who is ranked 65 on the list of qualifiers.  She qualified for the trials by running the San Francisco Marathon in a time of 2:43:41.

The U.S. Olympic Team Trials for the Women's Marathon will be broadcast live at www.nbcolympics.com/marathon. The webcast on April 20 begins at 8:00 a.m. NBC Sports Al Trautwig and 10-time NCAA All-American Ed Eyestone will provide commentary for the wire-to-wire coverage.

As a student at Trinity, Flamino finished first in the Div. III Cross Country New England Championships her senior year.  That same season she finished 13th nationally and was selected as an All-American.  She is the all-time highest placing Trinity athlete in both categories.  As a junior she finished 11th overall in the New England Championships.

The trials, which take place the day before the 112th annual Boston Marathon, will start and finish at the same finish line on Boylston Street.  The Olympic Trials race will feature a specially designed course that tours historic Boston with a one-time loop that passes Boston Public Garden, Boston Common, the State House and Beacon Hill. The course will then feature four loops of approximately six miles each proceeding down Commonwealth Avenue, crossing the Charles River into Cambridge using the Massachusetts Avenue Bridge, running east, then west along Memorial Drive. Runners then return from each of the Core Loops via Massachusetts Avenue.
